Don Michael Randel is President of the Andrew W.
Mellon Foundation and former President of the University of Chicago
(2000–2006). He came to Chicago from Cornell University, where he served as
faculty member, Dean, and Provost. A widely published music historian,
particularly on medieval liturgical chant, he has also written on Arabic music
theory, Latin American popular music, and fifteenth-century French music and
poetry. He is editor of the Harvard Dictionary of Music (fourth
edition), the Harvard Biographical Dictionary of Music, and the Harvard
Concise Dictionary of Music and Musicians. He is a member of the
American Philosophical Society and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts
& Sciences. |
