A Day at the Getty Center
1816th Stated Meeting - Western Center

The new Getty Center in Los Angeles, California, hosted the 1816th Stated
Meeting of the Western Center. Featured were museum and architectural tours as
well as a special tour of the Getty Research Institute for the History of Art
and the Humanities. Following the induction ceremony for new Fellows, there
were three presentations. Michael Palladino, of Richard Meier and Partners,
spoke about the design and construction of the Getty Center. Salvatore Settis,
director of the Getty Research Center for the History of Art and the
Humanities, gave a talk and slide presentation on the origin and use of
gestures in the history of art. John Walsh, director of the J. Paul Getty
Museum, discussed the museum's acquisitions policy as well as the teaching and
research programs associated with the collection.
