At the Fall Stated Meeting of the Midwest Center, Martha Nussbaum spoke on the topic "Toward Global Justice." Ms. Nussbaum is the Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics at the University of Chicago, where she holds appointments in the Law School, the Divinity School, and the Department of Philosophy. Her publications include Cultivating Humanity: A Classical Defense of Radical Reform in Higher Education; Sex and Social Justice; The Fragility of Goodness: Luck and Ethics in Greek Tragedy and Philosophy; and, most recently, Women and Human Development: The Capabilities Approach.

The 1838th Stated Meeting of the Academy, the event was held at the Chicago Cultural Center, a landmark building that is home to the world's largest Tiffany dome. The meeting included a private viewing of the Museum of Broadcast Communications and a regional induction ceremony for newly elected members from the Midwest. Read the transcript in the Bulletin.
