Introduction:		James H. Simons is President of Euclidean Capital and Board Chair of Renaissance Technologies llc, from which he retired in 2009 after serving for many years as ceo. Previously, he was Chairman and Professor of the Mathematics Department at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Simons is the founder and chairman of Math for America (MƒA). Together with his wife, Marilyn, he manages the Simons Foundation, a charitable organization devoted primarily to scientific research. Presentations:		Benjamin M. Friedman is the William Joseph Maier Professor of Political Economy at Harvard University. He is the author or editor of eleven books, including The Moral Consequences of Economic Growth (2005) and Day of Reckoning: The Consequences of American Economic Policy Under Reagan and After (1988), which received Columbia University’s George S. Eccles Prize. He is a Director of the Council for Economic Education and the Encyclopedia Britannica. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2009. 		Robert M. Solow is Institute Professor Emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1987, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in recognition of his contributions to the theory of economic growth; in 1999 he received the National Medal of Science for his creation of the modern framework for analyzing the effects of investment and technological progress on economic growth. His publications include Capital Theory and the Rate of Return (1963); The Nature and Sources of Unemployment in the United States (1964); Growth Theory (1970); and Inflation, Unemployment and Monetary Policy (with John B. Comment:		Paul A. Volcker is Chairman of the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. He served as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the U.S. Federal Reserve System from 1979 to 1987. He is former Chairman of Wolfensohn & Co., Inc., as well as Professor Emeritus of International Economic Policy at Princeton University. Volcker divided the earlier stages of his career between the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Chase Manhattan Bank, and the U.S. Treasury Department. He was recently Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Accounting Standards Committee and also chaired an investigation of the un’s Oil-for-Food Program.
