Expert and Background Sources on Russia-Georgia Conflict

August 18, 2008

CAMBRIDGE, MA - The American Academy of Arts and Sciences has for several years studied Russia and the former Soviet republics. A recent study on security challenges to the international community posed by developments within the former Soviet Union resulted in five volumes, including STATEHOOD AND SECURITY: GEORGIA AFTER THE ROSE REVOLUTION (2005) edited by Robert Legvold (Columbia University) and Bruno Coppieters (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). This volume features several essays useful for understanding the context of current situation in Georgia.

Details about this book, including Professor Legvold's introduction and two of the essays, can be found at:http://www.amacad.org/publications/statehood_security.aspx

The Academy's work on Russia continues. Professor Legvold is leading a major reevaluation of U.S. relations with Russia, which will offer comprehensive policy recommendations for the new administration in 2009.

To arrange an interview with Professor Legvold about the current state of Russian-Georgian relations and the implications for the west, contact:
