American Academy Presents Experts in International Security
September 17, 2001- The American Academy of Arts and
Sciences has a number of Fellows with specific knowledge of security issues
relating to the attack at the World Trade Center. These include:

John Steinbruner, co-chair, Committee on International Security Studies,
specialist on cooperative security.

Carl Kaysen, co-chair, Committee on International Security Studies, specialist
on security matters.

Matthew Meselson, Academy Fellow, specialist on bioterrorism.
In addition, Academy publications and research includes work by
many experts in international relations and global security and maintains a
longstanding commitment to understanding and promoting global security.
The Academy has produced important research on Terrorism and
Business, International Criminal Law, a five volume series on the nature of
fundamentalism and the origins of terrorism, among other issues. Academy
Fellows, who design and contribute to these research projects, are considered
leading minds in the academic and public policy arenas. The Academy joins the
nation in expressing our profound grief and support for all those touched
directly by the tragedies of this past week and for the great loss felt by
civilized people throughout the world.
