Danielle Allen, co-chair of the Commission on the Practice of Democratic Citizenship, spoke with PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff about the Our Common Purpose report and why she feels hopeful about the future of American democracy. Allen discussed the need for enlarging the U.S. House of Representatives, Supreme Court Term Limits, and other Our Common Purpose reforms: “We have to redesign our institutions so that they are responsible and accountable, at the same time as we are reconnecting people to their own civic power and responsibility.”
The video also features Academy member, governance member, and former Governor of Tennessee Philip Bredesen sharing his support efforts underway to strengthen democracy through bipartisan initiatives.
