Research focuses on classical Chinese poetry and poetics and comparative literature. She has translated and written on major poets and concepts and has examined issues raised by the study of Chinese literature from a comparative perspective. Her current work explores the role played by early translations of Chinese poetry into Western languages, and she also speaks frequently on the contemporary humanities.
