Gluck Foundation Community Fellowship at the Colburn School

Program Description:

The Community Fellowship Program provides learners at the Colburn School’s college-level Conservatory of Music with first-hand opportunities to experience life as professional musicians, with a focus on service. Participants perform in community centers, senior homes and public schools. They deepen their expertise as teaching artists through specialized pedagogy coursework and gain hands-on experience teaching one-on-one private lessons to young musicians through Jumpstart, Colburn’s tuition-free music education program serving students from low-income families. Community Fellows further their growth as engaged citizen artists through workshops led by distinguished guest artists and collaborate to create educational programming presented throughout Los Angeles. 

Impact: 

In 2026, 43 Colburn Conservatory of Music learners participated in the Gluck Foundation Community Fellowship. Fellows learn first-hand the social responsibilities that can complement their work as professional musicians and develop crucial teaching skills that will serve them if they choose to become music educators.  

The Max H. Gluck Foundation funds similar service fellowships for other arts majors at the Julliard School in New York and the University of California, Riverside. 
 

Population Served:

• College learners at the Colburn Conservatory of Music. 

• High school students who receive one-on-one instruction from Gluck Teaching Fellows. 

• Community members who benefit from the Fellows’ performances and community outreach projects.
