One Utah Service Fellowship
The One Utah Service Fellowship provides learners the opportunity to serve the state of Utah while supporting debt-free pathways to higher education.
Program Description:
The One Utah Service Fellowship is offered in partnership with AmeriCorps and places young adults in high-impact community service fellowships in education, health, and community development. These fellowships help address the needs of Utah residents. In exchange, participants receive a monthly stipend and, upon completion, can receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award that can be used for postsecondary education or qualified student loans. The fellowship program is also made possible with the generous support of the Andrew Carnegie Foundation, formerly Carnegie Corporation of New York.
Participants get to serve their communities via placements with local nonprofits, government agencies, and community service organizations while gaining valuable hands-on work experience. The fellows are given professional development and training opportunities to prepare them for their career paths, and can spend up to 20% of their service hours on member development.
Impact:
Fellows are given the opportunity to build key job skills while serving their communities. The partnership with AmeriCorps also means that fellows who complete the program receive education awards that they can apply to higher education.
Population Served:
Recent high school graduates and young adults as well as residents and communities across Utah.
Key Steps for Implementation:
In March 2024, legislation was signed that created the One Utah Service Fellowship.
In August 2024, the State of Utah partnered with the Utah Higher Education AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps program at Utah State University to launch the new program design.
