Tulsa Tech’s Career Academy

Program Description: 

The Career Academy, offered by Tulsa Tech in Oklahoma, is a program developed in partnership with Tulsa-area high schools to provide alternative education options to students in need. The program allows learners to complete their high school degrees while receiving career and technical training. The Career Academy increases learners’ career readiness and the likelihood that they will receive employment offers after graduating. 
 
In addition to providing career training through the pathways offered by Tulsa Tech, learners receive counseling, career development training, and life skills training. The first part of the day is spent doing remedial or first-time course work in traditional high school classes. The second part of each day focuses on developing skills for pursuing additional career training at Tulsa Tech.  
 
Learners are provided with additional staff support that they may not receive via traditional schooling, with personalized, flexible education in a non-traditional environment. The program is structured in a way to help foster community and belonging, which ultimately helps learners achieve their education goals.

Impact: 

Tulsa Tech’s Career Academy aims to increase the employment opportunities for at-risk youth by providing them with career training opportunities while they earn their high school diploma or GED. 

Population Served: 

Learners who struggle in traditional high school settings and are considered at-risk of not graduating with a high school diploma.
