The Meauxmentum Approach

Program Description: 

The Meauxmentum Approach is an education framework developed by the Louisiana Board of Regents that aims to close education gaps across colleges and universities and improve learner success. 
 
This approach combines three “foundational strands” (Everyone, Resources and Affordability, and Learning Mindsets) with four “structural threads” (Choices, Pathways, Milestones, and Engagement.) The foundational strands help overcome barriers to ensure that all learners have access to higher education, and work to foster a sense of belonging among learners to promote college completion. The structural threads help to identify clear pathways toward graduation by utilizing established evidence-based strategies, setting specific targets for learners, and fostering active learning environments. 
 
The Louisiana Board of Regents hopes that 60 percent of all working-age adults in Louisiana will hold a postsecondary degree or high-value credential by 2030. This framework is a key part of the overall master plan. 
 
Every year, Louisiana hosts the Meauxmentum Summit, which is an annual conference that brings together teams of practitioners from higher education institutions across Louisiana. There, they can meet with and learn from national experts and discuss ways to implement the Meauxmentum Approach on their campuses. 

Impact: 

This program aims to improve college readiness, college attendance, and graduation rates across all of Louisiana’s public universities and colleges. It targets barriers that prevent learners from enrolling in college and aims to improve pathways to graduation. 

Population Served: 

Louisiana college-age learners. 

Key Steps for Implementation: 

• Article VIII of Louisiana’s Constitution authorizes the state Board of Regents to develop a master plan for higher education.

• The current master plan was introduced in 2019 and the Meauxmentum Approach was subsequently developed over several years. 

• The first Meauxmentum Summit was held in 2023.
