Northeast Louisiana Healthcare Alliance

Program Description:  

The Northeast Louisiana Healthcare Alliance was born out of Next Gen Sector Partnerships, a workforce development framework creating customized education-workforce partnerships in 20 states across the country. Their work is centered around creating resilient partnerships that strengthen local economies and communities.  

Established in 2016, the Northeast Louisiana Healthcare Alliance is a partnership of roughly 40 hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, and home healthcare organizations which provide 20 percent of all jobs in Northeast Louisiana. The development of the alliance was informed by the Next Gen Sector Partnerships Playbook, bringing together local education institutions, workforce, community, and economic development organizations to help grow the healthcare industry. The structure of the Alliance requires industry leaders to help develop priorities before the education and economic development partners provide funding and resources.  

Impact:  

The Alliance created an agenda that supports the Northeast Louisiana communities by helping to grow and stabilize the healthcare industry, leading to healthier communities. 

Population Served:  

The Alliance serves the 11 parishes of Northeast Louisiana, the most impoverished area of the state.

Key Steps for Implementation:  

The Alliance’s success is largely attributed to the staffing and backbone support provided by the Workforce Development Board 83 and the coordinated network it developed consisting of local community colleges and universities.  

The Alliance received a myriad of grants throughout the development process, including a small U.S. Department of Labor National Emergency Grant for the purposes of contracting with a sector partnership expert and a large Health Professions Opportunity Grant from the Office of Children and Families.
