My Texas Future

Program Description: 

My Texas Future is Texas’s statewide digital platform that helps Texans explore careers, plan for education and training, and take the next step toward achieving their goals.  Created by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the platform brings together career exploration, postsecondary program information, financial planning, college preparation, admissions, and other resources into one connected experience. My Texas Future is designed to meet Texans where they are. When users enter the site, they identify whether they are a middle, high school, or college student or an adult, and the platform adjusts the tools, information, and guidance they see based on where they are in their education and career journey. For younger students, grade-by-grade action plans beginning in seventh grade help them understand what they can do each year to prepare for college and a career.  

The platform helps students move from “What do I want to do?” to “How do I get there?” Students can explore their interests and skills through a career quiz, learn about occupations and local workforce demand, and identify Texas degree and certificate programs that can prepare them for those careers. Through the Program Explorer, students can compare programs using information such as cost, location, program characteristics, and potential earnings.  

My Texas Future helps students move from planning to action. Students can create a profile and, beginning as early as middle school, save activities, accomplishments, academic information, interests, and other information they will need later in the college application process. The platform is designed so that information students build over time can help populate their college application when they are ready to apply, reducing duplication and making the transition from planning to applying easier.   

For high school students, My Texas Future connects directly to Direct Admissions, allowing students to see participating Texas colleges where their academic record may qualify them for admission before they complete an application. Students can then move directly to ApplyTexas, Texas’ statewide college application system, when they are ready to apply.  

The platform also connects students with statewide opportunities such as Free College Application Week, when Texas residents can apply through ApplyTexas to undergraduate programs at Texas public colleges and universities without paying an application fee. 

Together, these tools create a more connected pathway from exploration to planning to admission and enrollment, helping Texans turn career aspirations into education and training opportunities that can lead to valuable credentials and high-demand careers. 

Impact: 

My Texas Future is creating a more connected statewide approach to college and career planning. Rather than asking students and families to navigate separate websites, systems, and sources of information, the platform brings the major steps of the journey together in one place.  

Students can discover their interests, explore careers, compare education and training options, understand costs and potential earnings, see where they may qualify for admission, and move directly into the college application process. This creates a clearer connection between the decisions students make throughout middle and high school and the education and career opportunities available to them after graduation.  

The platform also creates continuity over time. A student can begin building a My Texas Future profile in middle school, add accomplishments and information throughout high school, use that information to explore Direct Admissions opportunities, and ultimately transition into ApplyTexas when ready to apply to college. My Texas Future therefore serves not simply as an information resource, but as a statewide pathway that helps students progress from aspiration to action. For educators, counselors, and families, the platform provides a common statewide resource for helping students navigate decisions that can otherwise be complicated and difficult to understand.  

Population Served: 

My Texas Future is designed for Texans at different stages of their education and career journeys, from middle school students beginning to think about their futures to adults considering a new career or a return to college.  

Students must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Beginning as early as seventh grade, students can explore interests and careers, develop education plans, track activities and accomplishments, and work through grade-specific milestones that prepare them for high school graduation and college. In 2025, more than 1.2 million Texans used My Texas Future, bringing the total number of users to more than 2.5 million since the platform’s launch.
