Vermont’s School Quality and Student Success Indicator

Program Description:  

Vermont’s Department of Education is heavily focused on college and career readiness for students through flexible student pathways. Through their School Quality and Student Success Indicator, the state can integrate college and career readiness metrics into the Vermont Annual Snapshot which evaluates school performance and equity. The quality and student success indicator provides data on college entrance assessments, completion of advanced coursework, attainment of industry recognized credentials or military readiness, while also tracking student enrollment in postsecondary education, participation in a workforce training program or military enlistment. Assessment performance includes meeting benchmarks on SAT, ACT, AP, IB, CLEP, ASVAB or industry-recognized/CTE certification.  

Impact:  

By prioritizing postsecondary outcomes in their school accountability system, districts are able to adjust curriculum, programs, and opportunities for students to engage students in college and career readiness. Since Vermont launched the School Quality and Student Success Indicator with a focus on college and career readiness, over 1,500 associate’s degrees and Certificates have been awarded within the state.  

Population Served:  

The indicators serve the entirety of the state, providing information to students, teachers, school administrators, and the public, keeping data around college and career readiness up to date and actionable.
