Members were invited to join the Academy for a reception in New York. We welcomed local newly elected members and heard Annette Gordon-Reed discuss "The Humanities for the 21st Century" and why they are needed now more than ever.
On both sides of the Atlantic, support for the humanities, at all levels of educational institutions, appears to be waning. The Academy has been a leader in the pushback against this trend, understanding that we need both STEM and the disciplines of the humanities to ensure the well-being of citizens.
