As the higher education community braces for potential changes to institutional practices, the American Academy will be holding a virtual Affiliate Network convening Beyond Affirmative Action: Ensuring Diversity on Campus. This program will be an opportunity to come together for an off-the-record conversation about the impending Supreme Court decision and what comes next for campuses. The Academy is proud to host this important and necessary conversation at this critical moment for the higher education community.

The program will begin with a panel discussion featuring Mary Sue Coleman, president emerita of the University of Michigan and former president of the Association of American Universities and Christopher Edley Jr., interim dean of the Berkeley School of Education, dean emeritus of Berkeley Law, and co-founder of the Harvard Civil Rights Project. The panel will provide insights into how schools have already responded to state-specific restrictions on affirmative action and offer a discussion on the ways to advance our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Following the panel, attendees will break into smaller discussion groups organized by campus role to continue the conversation. The program will be closed and unrecorded to encourage candor.
