The Berkeley Program Committee invites you and a guest to join historian Brian DeLay as he discusses the history of the arms trade, which he argues reaches much farther back than the post-World War II military-industrial complex, and has entangled state and market since George Washington's day.

After DeLay's presentation, Priya Satia, Daniel Sargent, and Ron Hassner will respond and join a conversation moderated by David Hollinger. They will discuss the importance of studying the history of arms trade for understanding international relations, the history of capitalism and state making, and power relations between the United States and the rest of the world.
