We the People: A Conversation on the Fate of our Constitution with Jill Lepore
Please join Academy President Laurie Patton and historian, professor, and best-selling author, Jill Lepore for a conversation about storytelling, evidence, and the insights in Lepore’s newest book, We the People: A History of the U.S. Constitution. This work explores the long history of citizen-led efforts to amend the Constitution throughout American history: how these efforts have failed, the effects of an unchanged Constitution since 1971, and the promise of a more perfect union in the future.
Lepore is the David Woods Kemper ’41 Professor of American History at Harvard University and Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. Her scholarship and writing explore American History, culture, and politics, with a particular focus on absences and asymmetries in the historical record. She is also a staff writer at The New Yorker.
