Aaron F. Straight

Aaron Straight is the Pfeiffer and Herold Families Professor, and Professor of Biochemistry and, by courtesy, Chemical and Systems Biology at Stanford University.

Straight's lab is focused on understanding the mechanisms that govern the structure and function of chromosomes in all kingdoms of life. It approaches problems in chromosome biology using a wide variety of experimental systems (yeasts, frogs, humans, archaea, dinoflagellates) and employing diverse approaches (biochemistry, biophysics, functional genomics, cell biology, microscopy, and computation). The systems and approaches advance Straight's goal of understanding how chromosomes are faithfully transmitted during cell division and how chromosomes are structured and organized in the nucleus.

Straight received a B.A. in Biology from Dartmouth College and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California, San Francisco, and completed his post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School.
