President of Knight Foundation, which promotes informed and engaged communities toward a more effective democracy by funding journalism, media innovation, community engagement and the arts. Previously, he was publisher of the Miami Herald (3 Pulitzer Prizes during his tenure) and El Nuevo Herald (Spain's Ortega y Gasset Prize for excellence in Spanish language journalism). He chaired the boards of PBS, the Newseum and Web Foundation and was a member of the Secretary of State's Foreign Policy Advisory Comm. He has served on the boards of PepsiCo, AoL, American Airlines and Norwegian Cruise Lines. A graduate of Wesleyan University and University of Pennsylvania Law School, he served in the Peace Corps in Venezuela and in Colombia. Happily grandparents now, he married Susana López of Buenos Aires in 1969.
