Alexander Wendt is the Ralph D. Mershon Professor of International Security and Professor of Political Science at The Ohio State University. His areas of expertise include the philosophy of social science and social theory, international relations theory, global governance, and international security.

His book Social Theory of International Politics (1999) received the International Studies Association’s “Best Book of the Decade” award in 2006. His 1992 article, “Anarchy Is What States Make of It,” remains widely cited in discussions of international systems and constructivist theory. In 2015, he published Quantum Mind and Social Science, which proposes a quantum physical basis for consciousness and explores the implications of this perspective for the social sciences. In 2023, Wendt received the prestigious Skytte Prize in Political Science.

Wendt holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Minnesota. He previously taught at Yale University, Dartmouth College, and the University of Chicago before joining Ohio State in 2004.
