Professor Anderson Hunter Dupree was the George L. Littlefield Professor of History at Brown University until his retirement in 1981. He is considered an outstanding historian of the history of science and technology in the United States. While at Brown, Professor Dupree served as consultant to the Panel on Science and Technology and Astronautics, trustee of the Museum of American Textile History, member of the NASA Historical Advisory Committee, and Atomic Energy Commission's Historical Advisory Committee. Before coming to Brown, Professor Dupree held positions at Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University), University of California, Berkeley, and Harvard University. Among his main publications are: "Asa Gray: American Botanist, Friend of Darwin"; and, "Science In The Federal Government: A History Of Policies And Activities To 1940." His work led to awards such as the George Sarton Medal and Presidential Award. He has served as Secretary of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
