He has made many of the most fundamental computations in algebraic K-theory, a field of algebra of broad interest and relevance to many other parts of mathematics. He proved the Serre Conjecture, produced (with Merkunjev) the theorem concerning the second K-group, and developed (with Voevodsky) motivic cohomology.
