Research has been, and is, primarily concerned with relations between mathematical structures defined qualitatively and those defined numerically. He provided a major step i the proof that every locally Euclidean group (an essentially qualitative description) is a Lie group (i.e. a group that can be described by smooth numerical functions) He is interested also in the mathematics curriculum of elementary and secondary school.
