Research focuses on science and technology policy, as well as distributed, programmed systems. Her current computer science research centers on the design and developement of survivable systems, with particular emphasis on the detection of security breaches due to intruders who penetrate application programs. As Vice Chairman of the National Science Board, she is concerned with policy issues related to major increases in the research effort and research infrastructure in the U.S., as well as quantity improvement in the conduct of research.
