Professor Emeritus, Division of Rheumatology Department of Medicine, UCSF; Investigator Emeritus, Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr Weiss studied mechanisms of signal transduction by receptors involved in adaptive immunity in lymphocytes. Of particular interest are the mechanisms involved in the regulation of tyrosine phosphorylation pathways involved in normal immune responses. He has a particular interest in how disruption of these pathways can lead to diseases of autoimmunity or immune deficiency.
