Leading theoretical computer scientist. Has written over 180 scientific papers, making contributions to computational complexity, algorithms, optimization, coding, and more. Mentored over 20 graduate students and 60 postdoctoral fellows. Recipient of the 1994 Nevanlinna Prize, which is awarded every four years alongside the Fields Medal. Received the 2008 Conant Prize and co-awarded the Godel Prize in 2009.
