His presidency is credited with bringing the economy he inherited back from the brink of a depression, fighting the war on terrorism in a smart and effective way, making health care possible for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions, saving the auto industry, re-opening diplomatic ties with Cuba, and forging an important treaty that limits Iran's ability to develop nuclear weapons. At Harvard Law School, he was the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review.
