Bruce R. Blazar

Bruce Blazar is a Regents Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Blood & Marrow Transplant & Cellular Therapy, Associate Vice President (Office of the Academic and Clinical Affairs), and Founding Director of both the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and Center of Translational Medicine at the University of Minnesota. He holds the Childrens' Cancer Research Fund Land Grant Chair in Pediatric Oncology.

Blazar's research spans basic and translational immunology applications. His major focus has been on the use preclinical models to study graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) immunobiology with a special emphasis on immune regulation of GVHD. His translational studies led to each of the FDA-approved therapies to prevent or treat acute and chronic GVHD. Blazar's work has been recognized by multiple awards including NIH MERIT awards, Edward Mallinckrodt Scholar Award, American Society of Hematology Ernest Beutler Award as well as E. Donnall Thomas Lecture and Prize, Till and McCullough Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Blood and Marrow Transplant Group and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pediatric BMT Consortium.

He is an elected member of the Society for Pediatric Research, American Society for Clinical Investigation, Association of American Physicians, National Academy of Medicine (NAM) and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences.

Blazar received a B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.D. from Albany Medical College. His clinical training in pediatrics and in pediatric hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplantation was performed at the University of Minnesota.
