Associate Professor of Chemistry and Molecular and Cell Biology; Investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Made contributions to the understanding of biological sulfation pathways. Developed metabolic interference techniques for perturbing cell surface glycosylation with unnatural sugars in order to study their function. Demonstrated that Golgi localization of polysaccharide biosynthetic enzymes determines their in vivo substrate specificity.
