Catherine L. Johnson is Professor of Geophysics in the Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at University of British Columbia in Vancouver and Senior Scientist at the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson. Her research encompasses a variety of geophysical studies of Earth, Mars, Mercury, Venus, and the Moon. Much of her work focuses on modeling and interpretation of geophysical data sets: global and regional topography, gravity, and magnetic data, and (lunar) seismic data. The common goal of these investigations is to understand the internal structure and the long-term evolution of these bodies.

Johnson received her PhD in Geophysics from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD. She was a professor of Geophysics at Scripps until 2007, when she became a professor of Geophysics at the University of British Columbia, a position which she has maintained along with her role at the Planetary Science Institute.
