A prolific composer who blends Chinese and Western traditions, transcending cultural and musical boundaries, Dr. Chen Yi is a recipient of Charles Ives Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Guggenheim Fellowship, Finalist of Pulitzer Prize in Music, and ASCAP Concert Music Award. Compositions span orchestral, chamber music, choral, and solo works. She is a devoted music educator, a strong advocate of new music and women composers. She believes that music is a universal language; to improve the understandings between peoples from different cultural backgrounds through music could help to bring peace to the world.
