                    Professor of  Philosophy.  A philosopher of mind and meaning, served as Waynflete Professor of Metaphysical Philosophy at Oxford and president of the Mind Association. Author of seven books that focus on novel theories of concepts, modality, non-conceptual content of perception, the integration of metaphysics and epistemology. Being Known (1999)  treated such integration. Elaborated systematic rationalist program along Kantian lines. Presented a theory of understanding in Truly Understood (2008). Discusses perception in the visuals arts and music.
