Theatre, film and television actor, whose notable film performances include The Sound of Music (1965), The Night of the Generals (1967), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), Murder by Decree (1979), The Insider (1999), Nicholas Nickleby (2002), and Lock Up Your Daughters (1969). He has won numerous awards and accolades for his work, including an Academy Award, two Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a SAG Award, and a BAFTA Award. For Beginners (2012), at 82 was the oldest person ever to win an Academy Award.
