Christopher R. Browning
Mr. Christopher R. Browning was the Frank Porter Graham Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before retiring in the spring of 2014. He also taught at Pacific Lutheran University for 25 years. Christopher Browning's research focuses on the Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. He has written eight books extensively about Nazi decision- and policy-making in regard to the origins of the Final Solution, the behavior and motives of various middle- and lower-echelon personnel involved in implementing Nazi Jewish policy, and the use of survivor testimony to explore Jewish responses and survival strategies. Browning has served as the J.B. and Maurice Shapiro Senior Scholar and Ina Levine Senior Scholar at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Some awards include Annetje Fels-Kupferschmidt Award, National Jewish Book and Yad Vashem Book Prize for "Remembering Survival", Holocaust Educational Foundation Distinguished Achievement Award, National Jewish Book Award for "The Origins of the Final Solution", National Jewish Book Award for "Ordinary Men", Faculty Excellence Award and Burlington-Northern Foundation Faculty Achievement Award from Pacific Lutheran University, and "Best Article" award.
