Kuzawa's research integrates perspectives from biological anthropology, evolutionary theory, behavioral ecology and epidemiology to illuminate the origins of human biological variation and health and the evolution of the unique human life cycle. He has made important empirical and theoretical contributions to understanding how early life experiences influence adult health, including how social inequality affects health disparities. Kuzawa and his collaborators have documented the hormonal changes that accompany fatherhood, and the energetic costs and evolutionary trade-offs related to human brain development. Kuzawa is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences.
