Distinguished Professor of Chemistry. Discovered new heterocyclic structures, generated during oxidative DNA damage, that have had a critical impact on unraveling the molecular origin of mutations associated with aging and cancer. Leading authority on mechanisms of guanine oxidation in duplex and G-quadruplex DNA, DNA-protein cross-linking, and biochemical responses of DNA processing enzymes to nucleobase lesions.
