Dan Balz is chief correspondent at The Washington Post. Over four decades there, as a reporter and editor, he has been on the front lines of the Post's national political coverage. His books include two New York Times bestsellers: Collision 2012, and, with co-author Haynes Johnson, The Battle for America 2008. His awards include the John Chancellor Award (2017), the White House Correspondents Association’s Merriman Smith Award (2011) and the American Political Science Association’s Carey McWilliams Award (1999). He is a regular panelist on PBS’s “Washington Week” and a frequent guest on other public affairs programs. He was born in Freeport, Ill., and served in the U.S. Army. He is married to Nancy Johnson Balz.
