Daniel Aaron was the Victor S. Thomas Professor of English and American Literature Emeritus at Harvard University. He passed away in March of 2016 at the age of 103. Daniel Aaron is regarded as A pioneer in American studies and a prolific author, Aaron was also instrumental in founding the Library of America canon of classics. His writings mostly focused on the American Renaissance, Civil War, and the Progressive Era. Some of his publications include, "The Americanist," "America in Crisis," "The Unwritten War," "Cincinnati, Queen City of the West," and "American Notes." His works led to the National Humanities Medal in 2011 and fellowship with the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
