David Atkin

David Atkin is the Barton L. Weller Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Atkin's research focuses on development and international trade, including how global trade practices impact people living in poverty. His recent work has studied the role of regional taste differences in altering the impacts of trade reforms in India, and educational responses to the rise of export oriented manufacturing in Mexico. 

Atkins is also very involved with the Abdul Latif Jamal Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at MIT. He serves on the Executive Committee of the J-PAL Board and as Co-Chair of J-PAL's Firms sector. He is also on the review board of J-PAL's Project AI Evidence. He has served on the review board of J-PAL's Jobs and Opportunity Initiative.

He received a B.A. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Cambridge, an M.S. in Economics from the London School of Economics, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University.
