Distinguished and prolific literary scholar who has published twelve books, four edited collections, more than sixty essays in prestigious literary journals, and occasional pieces in publications such as the London Review of Books. Influential voice in the field of contemporary literary theory, he has done much to advance the historicist emphasis in Romantic studies, and contributed also to the comparative study of British Romanticism and German philosophy. Finally, he seeks to bridge the gap between the academy and the general public on topics such as the conflict in the Middle East and the war on terrorism.
