Sir David is a highly accomplished British historian and author who specializes in modern history and the history of business and philanthropy. He has been the Dodge Professor of History at Princeton University, a Visiting Professor of History at Oxford University, and the editor of the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. He is now the President of the British Academy. Sir David has served as a trustee of the Wolfson Foundation, the Royal Academy, the Library of Birmingham, the Rothschild Archive, the Gladstone Library and the Gordon Brown Archive. He makes frequent appearances on radio and television in the UK.
