Reichman's theoretical work has centered on three areas. First, understanding amorphous materials such as glasses, gels, and colloidal and nanoparticle suspensions. Second, the description of the optical and electronic behavior of ordered materials, including organic solids, and quasi-two dimensional metals and semiconductors. Lastly, the development of methodology for the description of dynamics in quantum condensed phase media. Reichman has had a sizable impact on these fields, and in many cases provided crucial predictions that have shaped the prevailing perspective on behavior in a broad range of materials. His work is characterized by breadth, depth and its close connection to experiments.
