Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey ~James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of Chemistry. Research in organocatalysis has made the field the most heavily published area of catalytic chemistry in the world and changed the way organic chemists think about and practice synthetic chemistry. Invented and made seminal contributions to the development of new activation schemes (new classes of organocatalytic processes) including iminium catalysis, somo catalysis, and photoredox catalysis. Recipient of the Thieme-iupac Prize in Synthetic Organic Chemistry (2006); the Mukaiyama Award (2007); and two awards from the American Chemical Society: the Cope Scholar Award (2007) and the Award for Creative Work in Synthetic Organic Chemistry (2011).~
