Author of two books of great influence on contemporary philosophy of physics. Quantum Mechanics and Experience (1994) offers an original approach to the measurement problem, and sparked renewed discussion of this central question in the foundations of physics. Time and Chance (2003) addresses the distinction between past and future. Not only have its proposals been widely discussed, but a forthcoming book of essays is devoted to it. His current book considers the claims of physics to provide a complete account of the natural world. Scope of this new manuscript is even broader than that of his first two books. Articles appear in major philosophy journals and also in major physics journals. His contributions to more popular venues--whether in print for Scientific American or for The New York Times, or on film--show his ability to make extremely complex ideas accessible.
