Dr. Denis Mukwege is a gynecologist and Pentecostal Pastor who in 1999 founded Panzi Hospital in the impoverished outskirts of Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo, to offer gynecologic and obstetric care. The hospital provided refuge and care for thousands of rape victims during and after the Second Congo War. Dr. Mukwege was awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize jointly with Nadia Murad for “their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.”
