Professeur honoraire, College de France. Throughout his career Malinvaud was devoted to the development of official statistics. Past research concerned econometric methodology and a wide range of issues in formalized economic theory, involving in particular time, uncertainty, and external effects. Later research centered more and more on macroeconomics, notably on the aggregation of economic behavioral laws and on the determinants of unemployment. Writings focused on the relevance of economic science, as well as on its relations with other social sciences.
