Director. In 1981, co-founded Chiron, a biotechnology company with major advances in treatment of AIDS, hepatitis, multiple sclerosis and kidney disease. Served as CEO until 1998. For ten years prior to founding Chiron, was a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry at UC Berkeley and from 1998-2002 served as Dean of Berkeley?s School of Public Health. Senior Director, Science and Higher Education Program (2002-2004), President (2004-2007) and currently member of the board of trustees, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
