Mollo-Christensen pointed out the spatial instability of supersonic jets caused by over-stability due to waves. He also worked on experiments and theory of aero-elasticity, unsteady transonic flows, aero-dynamic noise and turbulence, blood flow air-sea interactions, nonlinear surface waves and edge waves, and geophysical fluid dynamics. Contributed to the interpretation of Earth satellite data.
